TheDock Layout Builder is based on a logic a straight forward hierarchy that you should get accustomed to, in order to get the most out of the tool.
Here are the elements ranked from the biggest to the smallest;
- Section, you can have multiple sections inside one Template
- Grid, every section includes an internal space known as grid
- Area, every grid can contain multiple areas
- Block, every area can contain multiple blocks
In the Layout Builder panel, in addition to styling all Sections, Grids, Areas and Blocks, you can also tie each Block to a dynamic WordPress source, either a core data field or a custom field. Your main headline in a Template can for instance be your Post Title while you might want to add a Custom Field for an Event’s Location or similar.
TheDock is paired with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), which means that as soon as you add a new Custom Field as a source in your Template, that Custom Field is added to the WordPress Admin panel for any Post Type you are assigning that Template to. That means your client will always have the correct fields available in their back-end, giving you the full power of structured WordPress data with ACF.
